BHANG LASSI - WHAT IS IT?

The tradition of cannabis in India is culturally embeded and the first memories of the use of the drink can be found in the Vedas about 2000 years BC, where it is presented as a divine drink - Soma. The drink is consumed, however, not only by Shiva's followers or Sadhus  for ritual or purification purposes.

The hemp drink presented in the video is a mixture of 3 ingredients - water, limes, sugar and hemps, however more popular form is a milk drink, i.e. lassi.

Bhang lassi can be purchased legally in stores marked Government Shops in the state of Rajasthan (Jaisalmer, Pushkar or Udaipur) or, for example, in Varansi - popular here as blue lassi. In India, this drink is used for religious ritual purposes - it aims to put us into a state of trance, clear our mind and get rid of evil powers, for example, it is also used to entertain, for example, willingly drunk during the festival of Colors Holi. In addition, you can find references to the use of cannabis for medical purposes, effective medication for  malaria, fever or gastrointestinal problems.

Cannabis consumption in India is culturally rooted in India, therefore it is not socially condemned, however, it must be remembered that the cultivation of cannabis is illegal and punishable.

What to expect?

You need to wait about 1 to 2 hours for effects and it lasts up to 12 hours. The drink is strong, a bit psychedelic compared to smoking marijuana and can make you feel legless, so ask for  not so strong version or drink half a glass. Under no circumstances do you drink 2 glasses!

After drinking, it is best to go somewhere in a quiet place, if you are in Udaipur, I recommend restaurants with a view of the city and the lake, if Varanasi, then the ghats or a boat trip during the ceremony of giving lights to the gods  Aarti.
